Sunset Destination Wedding on Singer Island, Florida
WEDDING DATE We got married on September 19, 2021.
THE PROPOSAL Bret proposed on December 13, 2020. We had been together 2.5 years and I knew 100% he was the one. There had been some hints that a proposal was close but I had no idea of the exact day. I’d actually guessed a week later than it was. The night before he INSISTED we meet for dinner. Throughout the dinner he took time just listening to me and reassuring me that we were forever. The day of the proposal I came home to the sweetest letter asking me to get dressed in something fancy and meet him at our favorite spot, no location listed. I knew exactly where to go. There is a pier in the middle of downtown that when we first started dating, we spent hours talking. Into the night, in the rain, after a long day at work, it was our spot. He had a gorgeous bouquet and dropped down on one knee. He then arranged our family and friends to meet us at brunch right after. It was magical.
WEDDING PLANNING MANTRA Communication! Bret would sometimes ask me to take a few days off from planning to clear my head. It can get so overwhelming so quickly.
FAVORITE MOMENT I have two. My mom asked me to meet for coffee early in the morning. She presented me with a necklace she had made with a diamond from my Grandmother’s wedding ring. My Grandmother was my best friend and passed away in 2018. I hadn’t found a necklace that fit with my wedding dress yet and it was perfect. Of course, the BEST part of the day was seeing Bret at the end of the aisle waiting for me. He’s my soulmate (obviously) and once I saw him all my nerves disappeared.
THE DRESS I tried on about 15 dresses. I knew I wanted a beachy wedding dress even before we decided on a beach wedding. It has gorgeous roses, a nude under layer full of glitter, and a low back. It was perfect for me.
BEST ADVICE Plan it FOR YOU. It’s so easy to get lost in what everyone else wants you to do. Everyone is going to have an opinion but I was told “your wedding day is one of the very few days that you can be selfish and do whatever YOU want to do” because it’s only about you.
