Rustic Boho Fall Wedding in Downtown Sioux Falls, South Dakota

Sufi and Katelyn got married on a chilly November day in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. They had their first look at the Japanese gardens, which isn’t too far from the house that I grew up in.

Sufi and I knew each other from our summer days working at the Dairy Queen on Minnesota Ave. So when he asked me if I wanted to photograph his and Katelyn’s wedding, of course I had to say YES! Their dream day turned into a miracle celebration because the week of their wedding, Katelyn’s dad was in a really bad car accident, which left him with a concussion and visible facial wounds among other health concerns. Her dad’s near-death experience days before the wedding made all those wedding day firsts with him even more emotional — from the first look, to walking down the aisle, to toasts and the father-daughter dance.

Sufi and Katelyn celebrated more than their marriage that day. They celebrated being able to gather with family and friends and recognized how lucky they were to cherish each others’ company and health.
